Mary Ann Thomas and Daniel Baylis spent four months bicycling across India, from the Himalayas to the southern tip of the subcontinent. Mary Ann, a brown queer daughter of Indian immigrants, bicycled across North America and brought maintenance skills to the team. Daniel, a writer and photographer, had experience with the logistics of international travel and the documentation of intensive journeying. They crossed 3300 miles, twelve states, and countless cultures within a single country. In Asking for Elephants, they share snapshots—both photographic and literary—about India, the realities of cycle touring, and little lessons acquired along the way. From altitude sickness in the Himalayas to camping in the deserts of Rajasthan, their distinct writing is paired with colorful photography from a truly remarkable journey.
